Vintage Cellar Wine Tasting- 3/29

Obikwa Sauvignon Blanc (2010) $7.95- This Sauvignon Blanc came from South Africa
Vintage Cellar Description- OBiKWA Sauvignon Blanc is the ideal summer wine and smacks of crisp tropical fruit with a smattering of gooseberries and fig. If you're planning a night out with mates - don't forget to bring along a bottle of this yummy potion!
My description- This wine smelled rather citrus-y.  There was a hint of alcohol and a burnt smell that came through on the nose as well.  However, this wine was very floral in its taste.  The hints of alcohol that was present in the smell was noticeable in the taste of the wine.

Fox Hollow Chardonnay (2009) $5.95- This bright Chardonnay came from California
Vintage Cellar Description-  Quite an interesting Chardonnay, in an era when so many are too sweet and extracted. There’s plenty of orange and apricot fruit flavor, but also a brilliant streak of minerality, like a lick of cold steel, and the overall taste is dry. Really easy to like, with lots of complexity to warrant repeated sipping.
My description- This wine smelled very much like the oak-y, butter-y chardonnays that is characteristic of California.  It was very smooth in the mouth, not too heavy on the palate.  It was also very silky, which creamy and reflected the butter-y smell.  It was also a very fruity wine.  No real alcohol bite.
Tres Ojos Old Vines Garnacha (2009) $6.95- This wine came from Spain
Vintage Cellar Description- Bright ruby color. Primary dark berry aromas are simple but offer very good purity and focus. Juicy blackberry and bitter cherry flavors are youthfully tangy, with good back-end acidity adding snap. The clean, brisk finish leaves behind notes of sweet dark berry preserves and cracked pepper.
My description- This wine smelled like pepper and alcohol.  The pepper, almost spicy smell balanced out the alcoholic smell of the wine.  It tasted a little bitter but that was also balanced by hints of dark fruits.
Faraway Farms Shiraz (2008) $5.95- This wine was from South Africa
Vintage Cellar Description- Fresh, modern style, with lots of plum pudding, sweet chocolate, mocha, blackberry and boysenberry flavors supported by round, sweet tannins and toast.
My description- This wine smelled very much like dark fruits.  It was a rather sweet wine, that was very smooth across the palate.  It was tasted very much like it smelled.  There were intense fruit flavors.
Primo Amore Moscato (year not provided) $8.95- This wine came from Italy
Vintage Cellar Description- Straw-yellow with golden reflections and a delicate mousse. Fruity and very inviting, with intense scents of peaches and exotic fruit. Fresh and pleasantly sweet with a taste that reveals its varietal characteristic.
My description- This wine smelled very fruity and had strong hints of honey.  It smelled also sickly sweet.  The smell of this wine was very indicative of the taste of the wine which was sweet.  It tasted very sugary and I could pick up the peach elements that the Vintage Cellar description pointed out.
